Mardi Gras





The greatest party in the world happens every year in New Orleans before lent. Starting at 12th Night( 12 nights after the birth of Christ) Groups of friends gather to party and choose a king for the day by selecting a piece of King Cake with a doll inside. The winner is the king and throws the next party. This simple cultural event has lead to large parades. The week before Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras ( the day before Lent starts) the biggest crews have their parades. Tens of thousands of people line the routes to catch beads and throws. Costumes are the norms and fun is the way they play. .
